FALL IS COMING, YOU GUYS!
I’m so excited to participate in this campaign with all my favorite foodie brands because you know I’ve BEEN ready for this – gone are the beach days and swimsuits. I am opening my arms to pumpkins, sweaters, and FOOTBALL!
Of all the sports to watch on the TV, football is and always has been my favorite. It’s the most exciting and my dad always watched it when we were kids. Sometimes we would have parties for the important games, and sometimes we’d attend them – regardless of whose party it was, or who was actually playing, we always knew the food would be awesome and we were always stoked.
Because the only thing better than football season is: grill-gating, parties, and food.
Now that I’m “all grown up” and living on my own, Kyle and I like to get together with friends and have our own football parties! If we’re LUCKY, we find a way to a local university campus and grill-gate in the parking lot with our alumni friends! (We’re lucky because we both attended community colleges and have TONS of friends that attended actual universities – this makes us perfect candidates for tailgating since we have no true team affiliation!! GO US!)
While this comes with doing all of the food preparations ourselves (and not just eating it like when we were kids) it’s still just as fun and just as necessary when college football comes around. ESPECIALLY in the south!!
The college football season begins in JUST a few days so it’s important that we get our ideas together and start planning our tailgating parties and menus for the upcoming games! Walmart has everything you need to be the #GrillGatingHero at your next tailgate!
SO – I’m going to show you what my favorites are, and you can share yours in the comments below!
One of the obvious requirements for a grill-gate party is a GRILL – and what better food to make on the grill than WINGS?
My dad has perfected his recipe but I decided to try my hand at my own, and I’ve listed it below if you’re in the mood to try it at your own tailgate party!
AND, made with none other than the CLASSIC Kingsford® Charcoal. We have always been loyal buyers of this brand, so I was really excited when it was included as a partner for this campaign! There’s nothing better than the smell of charcoal and a grill IN ACTION.
In a bowl combine:
› garlic & onion powder
› cayenne pepper
› black pepper
› and brown sugar
Give your wings a quick rub down and throw them on a hot grill!
Baste with a sauce of your choice. Mine is made up of:
› BBQ sauce
› apple cider vinegar
› and buffalo sauce
And you can’t just eat wings on game day – you need sides, snacks, and classics like Dr Pepper® and RITZ Crackers to go with it! Just a few more of my favorite brands. I wish you guys KNEW how excited I was to write this post and talk to you guys about football and food. I LOVE FALL YOU GUYS!
Along with chips, cakes, and other snacks, one tailgating staple that I am always fond if is the veggie tray. It’s so easy to do and everyone loves it. Doing it myself though, I get to exclude the weird veggies like cauliflower and broccoli and I get to add my favorites like carrots, cucumbers, and celery! And then in the middle – Hidden Valley® Ranch Dressing. I honestly don’t know what else you’d use, or if I’ve even see anyone use anything else.
ONTO THE SIDES!
If you visit the world wide web in search of the perfect tailgating side, you may find yourself in the corner, heavy breathing and rocking back and forth. IT CAN BE SO OVERWHELMING. So I’m here to make it simple:
DIPS ARE WINNERS.
DIPS ARE OUR FRIENDS.
MAKE A DIP.
They are easy, quick, and loved by everyone. If you know someone that’s anti-dips don’t trust them. Seriously.
One of my favorite tailgating dips is a buffalo chicken dip! It’s PERFECT with RITZ crackers (the ONLY crackers, in my opinion) and I’ve listed my go-to recipe below:
BUFFALO DIP & RITZ CRACKERS
› 8oz cream cheese
› 1 C shredded cheddar
› Buffalo sauce (to your liking)
› Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing (to your liking)
› & RITZ Crackers for dipping! (5 crackers per serving!!)
› 1 cooked & shredded chicken breast (you can totally buy this pre-cooked)
Throw all that into a saucepan, let it melt together and BAM!
WHAT TO DRINK?
Another must for game day get togethers are drinks (obviously; you can’t let your guests get thirsty) and it’s always fun to get a little creative!
My favorite to have around is Diet Dr Pepper! With Kyle’s bartending background and my never-ending interest in “seeing what happens if I…” we tend to concoct tons of different beverages when we’re having company! One of my favorite Dr Pepper drinks is a Cherry Float – it’s super dessert-y and so yummy! AND you can make it with ANY Dr Pepper flavor you can find!
My favorite is Diet Dr Pepper and this is how I do it:
› 1 12oz can of Diet Dr Pepper
› 1 oz of grenadine
› 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
› Add some whipped cream and a Maraschino cherry to top it off! (or 5 – I love these things.)
These are my MUST HAVE, CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT STAPLES for football grill-gating, and I love to add different dishes, snackage, and drinks to the mix each time – and combined with what all our friends will inevitably bring, it’s always such a good turnout and we all end up full, around the TV, and debating over whose team is best!
