West Virginia: Skiing into the New Year (Hello 2017!) – Wildlight&Lush

For the New Year’s holiday Kyle and I drove out to the Timberline Ski Resort in West Virginia to go skiing with his dad and family!

The drive out to the mountains is always so beautiful. We stopped at this scenic overlook which was so unique because we had to turn into it and drive up a big hill. It was scenic 360!

BABY CIV!

We got to our cabin “Almost Aspen” that afternoon and got our stuff unpacked/rented. Kyle’s dad has been taking them on this trip every winter for the last 20+ years. They all have their own gear, but I’m still renting mine! It’s really a wonderful tradition their dad has started for them, and they love it so much, I know it’s something we’ll all continue to do with our kids!

It snowed the last 2 days we were there, and it was a dream! (even if I was totally sick the whole time…)

Drinking water out of the mountain!

Our cabin is slope-side which is really nice. We ski down to the lifts, go up, and when we come down, we can ski right back to the cabin! It’s PERFECT AND THE CONVENIENCE IS TO DIE FOR.

Kyle taught me to snowboard (bucket list thing!) and it was so fun! He’s been telling me since I started coming on this trip how hard snowboarding is and how I should probably just ski because it’s so difficult and I’ll hate it and yadda yadda yadda. It was very difficult and exhausting but I picked it up so quickly! He taught me how to strap in, get up on my own, how to move in different directions, and how to stop. All of which I did really well! I totally fell .. many times. but it was SO much fun! I really think I like it more than skiing, if I’m being honest. And snowboard boots are a trillion times more comfortable than ski boots.

The lodge! We had date nights at the bar, ate fries, and had a good time! I wanted cheese fries with bacon and the woman told me they were out of cheese and then proceeded to put several whole pieces of bacon on my fries…LOL

ALL SIX OF US! I posted this to Facebook thinking everyone knew Candi was pregnant with TWINS but I was mistaken HAHA! I forgot most of my family doesn’t know her or that she’s pregnant, so many people we’re asking if it was ME that was pregnant with twins! OY. Those sweet babes even got their first pair of skis while we were there! Their dad says as soon as they can run, he’s putting them in skis!

FRESH POWDA.

The lift is the best part, right? We are off to a great year!

IT’S A WINTER WONDERLAND. On instagram, I posted a similar photo and said I was “on so much cold medicine right now”. I was on a MEDICATION SCHEDULE, guys. Tylenol, Advil cold and sinus, nose sprays, oh my! My cough/breathing got so bad I didn’t leave the cabin to ski for like 2 days!

Warm fires, card and board games, hot chocolate, ALL THE SNACKS.

This was during a “stop break” halfway down a beginner trail because it was too steep and I went too fast, and I got nervous. HAHA.

I tried to take a jumping picture and was strugglin’ some type of hard in a foot of snow, wearing all those clothes! HA.

Getting a snowy, cozy cabin for a getaway with family or for just you and your sweetie is seriously the perfect way to relax and hang out! This much snow is so different than what we’re used to so it was a lot of fun to do something different.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and I wish everyone the BEST 2017!

xoxo

I don’t remember the last time I was in this much snow! It was so fun – more so because we could eventually go home to where there was NO snow. 😉

  1. Nice photos, looks like you really enjoy wintertime. I myself hate winter and late autumn. I am a springtime and summer lover.

I’m definitely with you on that – I’m a summer soul all the way. I just try my best to appreciate the beauty in every season! Where I live, we get each season in full, and I love it. 😀
