“Wait! Lemme get my sunnies on and hide dis face.” 😂
On Saturday my friend Starr came to visit me and we drove out to Durham for good food and this State Park! It’s the closest mountain I could find for hiking (I’m craving some west NC vibes lately..) and even though most wouldn’t even consider it a mountain, but more of a “bluff”, it was still cool! The trails are pretty well maintained and aside from the still-audible road noise and power lines, it’s pretty awesome!
There are a few trails here, most are easy and pretty short. There’s a longer one, too, that goes all the way around and up to the overlook from the opposite side. We cheated and took several short trails to the overlook instead. #lazygirlproblems
It wasn’t difficult, we’re just really out of shape. LOL. The looks was so incredible (considering where we were) and you could see the Eno River from the top! It was so pretty, and I was totally obsessed with all the exposed rock.
Starr is, as she says, “too chunky to be on this damn mountain” so I didn’t push her (even though I reeeeally wanted to hop the fence and and play on the rocks.) I knew she’d look at me like I had 5 heads if I told her to come with me. HAHA!
Starr is literally the funniest human being on the planet & she had me laughing the entire time. I know I had her a little out of her element here but I’m so glad she stuck with me and could relate when I was near death with the inclines. (Which weren’t even that bad, I’m just, again, terribly out of shape.)
There were quite a few people here the day we went, especially since it looked like the sky would drop on us at any moment! (That’s what happens when there’s a hurricane going on just a few hours from you!) But the weather was incredible and the sun wasn’t shining, so it wasn’t too hot. The humidity wasn’t terrible and it was just overall the most perfect day for a hike!
We we’re there for maybe an hour total, so it wasn’t bad at all! I would totally hike here again and if you live in the Raleigh/Durham area or anywhere in the Triangle, I definitely recommend visiting this park for a quick hike and a great view!
