Goose Island Campground is a SWEET place! I loved our day-visit with family and we had so much fun canoeing and kayaking around the channels. The current was so strong because of the wind, so it was.. interesting! But it was such a beautiful day! My mom and I got into the canoe and began to float, and almost immediately she grabbed the swimming area rope and said “no, I’m not going. I’m not going. I DON’T WANT THE CURRENT TO TAKE ME AWAY!” I was like, “Mom, where is it going to take you? This isn’t the ocean. Worst case scenario, you walk out of the water – it’s like 3 feet deep.”
So we pulled ourselves back to the beach and she got out and my aunt got in! we paddled across the current and then up and around, and we practically floated back to the beach where we took off. It was super easy and so much fun! When we pulled back in, I got out and the canoe started to float back into the water with my aunt still in it, so my sister tried to pull her in while my uncle tried to push her out and she teetered a little and fell right out of the boat! Luckily it was shallow – but still hilarious! We saw a snake, tons of little fish, and hung out by the water for a while after eating a good lunch!
I’m really glad we got to come here, because it was on my little wish list of things to do while we were in the area, and it turned out to be a really nice time.
