FINALLY! I’ve been dying to go since it started warming up and we finally had the time to. I was pretty adamant about doing this on the Outer Banks because I needed to see the ocean, so we paid a little more to do it there. Kayaking isn’t an expensive thing to do, but at the beach, it’s always more. We went to Kitty Hawk Kayaks + Surf School and paid 25$/hour, but an hour was plenty for today! We went about 30 minutes out and then turned around. You can go all the way to the sound but it looked really rough driving over the bridge, so we didn’t get that far. We saw tons of turtles, ran into trees, each other, and it was so funny. The weather was perfect – warm but the canal was shaded, breezy, and lovely! We didn’t have to actually transport the kayaks, they put them in the water on site, which was a huge plus! And they do military discounts! I really loved this so much and now I’m definitely thinking Kyle and I need our own kayaks. I always thought I would love it, but this assured me that buying them would be a good idea!
The woman there helped us into our kayaks and they have a nifty little dock there to put the boat on while you get in – we were lucky the water was so high so we could do it this way, because I think typically, you put the kayak in the water and use the dock to walk on, which makes it more difficult to get in.
You pay before you leave based on how long you were out, and when we finished up, we headed to Bob’s Grill (Eat & Get the Hell Out!) for lunch. It’s totally a go-to for me when I visit this area and I was really wanting grits. Love me some grits, you guys! We drove to Jennette’s Pier so I could see the ocean and play with the GoPro some more. Newly obsessed, by the way.
Here’s a few snaps from our adventure – I definitely recommend adding this to your summer to-do list if you’re looking to get outdoors, be adventurous, and have some fun!
